French Quarter “Street Music Curfew” Ridiculous!

We met Clyde while waiting for the Ferry to dock in Algiers. Originally from Chicago, Clyde moved down to the city and has been part of the sounds involving local street performing crews over the past decade. He had his gear with him and was heading to the Quarter to make some change when we met.
He and many local performers working out here have been hit with a horrible blow. Non-Natives, buying property in the Quarter, are complaining about music coming from the streets. Our Streets! The curruption goes further. As if it isn’t already extremely difficult for performers to legally get the papers to play during the day, there’s now an 8pm curfew. My whole development as an artist comes from my family’s history performing in the Quarter. It’s being ripped from us. A local officer, keeping it nameless, looked me in the eye a month ago and told me I needed to stop playing my guitar on Decateur St. I’ve written half my music on streets in the Quarter! Clyde even has a ticket currently for performing without papers.
All natives, locals, musicians, I urge you, please, contact our Mayor. Let him know you love your city. You love YOUR music. We have a horrible crisis in the gulf right now. Our tax dollars can be good for that. Please stop spending money on destroying the musical heart of our City. Thank you.
